Hike, swim and forage in the heart of Jamaica

Guided bush walks, river swims, foraging and birdwatching in the green heart of Jamaica, led by a family who knows every trail.

At Jamaica Pines the adventure begins at your tent flap. Trails run from camp into the forest, the river is a short walk away and the person guiding you grew up on these paths.

Go with a guide, head out on your own on marked trails or do nothing at all. All three are good choices here.

DAYS THAT START AT THE TRAILHEAD

What you can do

There’s no fixed schedule here. Join a guide in the morning, wander off on your own in the afternoon or spend the whole day by the water. Most of what’s on offer starts a short walk from your tent.

Guided bush walk. Walk the land with family who grew up on it and learn which plants heal, which fruit is ripe and the stories behind both. Easy to moderate pace.

Rainforest hiking. Follow shaded trails through forest and working farmland, with views across the hills along the way. Moderate effort, guide optional.

River swimming. Cool off in clear natural pools after a warm day on the trail. Easy and open to confident swimmers.

Foraging walk. Pick what’s in season alongside a guide and find out what’s safe to eat, from wild fruit to cooking herbs. Easy, always guided.

Birdwatching. Head out at first light to spot Jamaica’s native birds, including the doctor bird, the island’s national bird. Easy, guide optional.

Farm visit. See the working side of the land, where the family still grows the food that ends up on your plate at the gathering house. Easy, always guided.
